Coastal Carolina to Take on North Carolina in Tuesday Night Tilt

The midweek road game is the first of four-straight road games for CCU

CONWAY, S.C. – The Chanticleers will open up a four-game road swing on Tuesday, April 20, as Coastal Carolina will take on North Carolina in midweek non-conference action at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.

The midweek non-conference matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network and ESPN+, as well as on the radio at WRNN Hot Talk 99.5 FM.

FAN INFORMATION
• Gates open to the public 60 minutes before the scheduled first pitch.
• In accordance with University and Department of Athletics policy and the Carolina Community Standards, guests must wear a face mask snugly over their nose and mouth at all times, except when actively eating or drinking.
• Fans must sit in their assigned seats and must comply with Carolina Community Standards or may be removed from the facility.

CHARTING THE CHANTS
• Coastal enters the week at 17-13 overall and 3-6 in Sun Belt Conference play.
• The Chants are coming off an 8-6 come-from-behind win over Georgia Southern on Sunday, April 18, as Coastal hit five home runs to erase a 6-1 deficit in the win.
• The Chanticleers are just 6-6 on the road this season but are 2-0 in midweek road games this season with wins at Wake Forest (Feb. 23) and UNCW (April 14).
• As a team, the Chanticleers are hitting just .250 on the season but have blasted 39 home runs and driven in 167 RBIs. The Chants lead the Sun Belt in home runs (39) and rank second in walks (142), on-base percentage (.365), and scoring (6.1).
• On the mound, the pitching staff posts a 4.67 ERA which is fifth in the Sun Belt this season.

SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
• The North Carolina Tar Heels are 18-15 overall on the season and 12-12 in ACC play under first-year head coach Scott Forbes.
• The Tar Heels are coming off a 10-9 road win at Pittsburgh on Sunday, April 18, in which they outscored the Panthers 10-9 in the conference win.
• UNC is 12-6 at home this season and 3-3 in midweek games this year with home wins over Elon (Feb. 23) and East Carolina (March 23), and a neutral site win over nationally-ranked South Carolina (April 6).
• North Carolina is hitting .255 as a team on the year but has hit 45 home runs and driven in 165 RBIs on the season.
• The UNC pitching staff has a 4.69 ERA, but has struck out 311 batters over 289.2 innings of work and is holding their opponents to a .236 batting average on the year.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• North Carolina leads the overall series with the Chanticleers at 44-20.
• Minus last year, in which the season was canceled before the two teams could play, CCU and UNC have met at least once on the diamond every year since 1996.
• Over the last 10 matchups, the Heels hold a slight 6-4 advantage while the two teams have traded wins over each of the last six meetings.

CCU VERSUS THE ACC IN 2021
• Coastal enters the midweek tilt having already played two ACC foes in Duke and Wake Forest. The Chants went 1-2 versus the then-No. 16 Duke Blue Devils in a three-game home series on Opening Weekend (Feb. 20-21) and defeated then-No. 16 Wake Forest 4-1 in 12 innings in a midweek contest the following week (Feb. 23).

MIDWEEK MADNESS
• Coastal is 3-0 this season in true (non-Monday) midweek contests with a 4-1 extra-inning win at then-No. 16 Wake Forest (Feb. 23), an 8-7 home win over the College of Charleston (March 23), and an 8-2 road win at UNCW (April 14).
• However, the Chanticleers have had just as many midweek games postponed or canceled than they have actually played this season. Their game with NC State on March 16 was canceled, while their two midweek games scheduled for two weeks ago versus UNCW (April 6) and College of Charleston (April 7) were both postponed.
• Since 2015, the Chanticleers are 35-25 in midweek contests.

IN THE TAR HEEL STATE THIS SEASON
• The Chanticleers are 2-0 this season when playing in the state of North Carolina having played in Winston-Salem and Wilmington so far this season.
• Both contests were midweek games as CCU posted a 4-1 extra-inning win at then-No. 16 Wake Forest (Feb. 23) and an 8-2 road win at UNCW (April 14).

BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN
• The Tuesday night tilt will be the first of four-straight road games for the Chanticleers following a three-game home series versus Georgia Southern this past weekend (April 16-18).
• In fact, eight of the Chants' next nine games are slated to be on the road as CCU will play three games this weekend at Liberty (April 23-25), one of two midweek games next week at UNCW (April 27), and then a three-game conference series at Georgia State (April 30-May 2).

SIGNS OF A RESURGENCE
• While the offense has struggled this season for Coastal standards, the Chants have shown signs of a resurgence at the plate the last week with two eight-run wins.
• Last Wednesday, April 14, at UNCW, the Chants had eight different players record a hit as the team hit .351 with eight runs on 13 base hits, five walks, three hit batters, and only seven strikeouts.
• In the Sunday series-finale win over Georgia Southern (April 18), six different Chants had at least one base hit as CCU hit five home runs, a season-high, and scored eight runs in the 8-6 come-from-behind win over the Eagles.
• All five home runs came from a different Chant in the win over the Eagles on Sunday (April 18).

LINE CHANGE
• While the Chanticleers have had only 15 different players start in the lineup in at least one game this season, head coach Gary Gilmore has written out 25 different batting lineups on the year.
• In fact, Gilmore has used just two lineups more than once this season (reference page 14).

MIDWEEK CHANGE
• After starting sophomore pitcher Casey Green in each of the last three midweek contests this season - at Wake Forest (Feb. 23), versus College of Charleston (March 23), and at UNCW (April 14), the Chants are scheduled to start Josh Jarman on Tuesday night at North Carolina (April 20).
• Jarman, who started on one-day notice at UTA (April 10) due to the penciled in starter not making the trip due to COVID-19 protocols, allowed three runs on four hits and one strikeout in 1.0 inning in the Chants' 8-7 road win.
• However, Jarman recorded his first career win as a Chant in his last appearance, throwing 1.1-scoreless innings in the midweek road win at UNCW (April 14).
• His best game to date this season was at Louisiana (March 26), in which he struck out a career-high nine hitters in 5.0-scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
• This season, the left-handed pitcher is 1-0 with a 5.59 ERA over 9.2 innings in six appearances.
