Women's Golf Returns to Action at the ECU Easter Invite

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team will head to North Carolina for their final regular-season tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship, as the Chanticleers will play in the ECU Easter Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, April 3-4, at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, N.C.

The Ironwood Golf and Country Club is the first signature golf course by former PGA and Hall-of-Fame member Lee Trevino, east of the Mississippi. The invite will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.

East Carolina University will play host to the invitational as 10 teams will face off on the par-72, 6,188-yard layout. The two-day event will feature 36 holes of play on Saturday and a final 18 holes on Sunday with shotgun starts at 8:15 a.m. ET both days.

Along with East Carolina and the Chanticleers, other participating teams include Augusta, Campbell, Cincinnati, College of Charleston, High Point, James Madison, UNC Greensboro, and Western Carolina.

The Chants will be looking to build some momentum heading to the Sun Belt Conference Championship as this will be the final match of the regular season.

Head coach Katie Quinney will set the lineup of Nicole Abelar, Sophia Carlsen, Frantiska Lunackova, Caitlin Evans-Brand, and Tiffany Arafi.

Abelar has been the surprise of the spring season and has even moved up to No. 188 in the latest Golfstat individual rankings. Carlsen has also been a pleasant surprise. After struggling as a freshman, the Aalsgaarde, Denmark native has five rounds this spring of par-or-better golf and has four top-20 finishes.

Lunackova is the lone senior this season and she missed all fall. She is beginning to get her play back up to her normal scores and has two top-10 finishes as well as a top-20 showing. She leads the team in rounds of par-or-better with five.

Evans-Brand and Arafi are still looking for the consistency they played with last season. Evans-Brand has one top-10 and one top-20 finish while Arafi has shot three rounds of par-or-better scores over her last two events.
