Coastal Carolina carded a second consecutive team round of 306 on Monday
EL DORADO, Ark. – Coastal Carolina's Seth Taylor carded a second-round 72, even-par, while teammate Zack Taylor turned in a round of 73, +1, to end day two of the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship in a tie for fifth place overall on the individual player leaderboard.
As a team, the Chanticleers shot a second consecutive team score of 306, +18, to sit in seventh place on the team leaderboard at 612, +36.
Carding the lowest individual round for the Chanticleers over the first two rounds of play, Seth Taylor shot a 72, even par, on Monday to jump 14 spots and into the top five overall at 148, +4. The sophomore, who is just three strokes behind the individual leader at 145, +1, shot a 38, +2, on the front nine on Monday but stormed back with three birdies and just one bogey on the back nine for a 34, 2-under par.
Tied with Seth Taylor at 148, +4, and in fifth place is Zack Taylor who carded a second-round 73, +1. The fifth-year senior had two birdies on both the front and back nines but had four bogeys over his final nine holes of play to shoot scores of 35 and 38 for his overall 73.
Also moving up the leaderboard on day two of play was CCU's Tyler Gray, as the junior dropped three strokes off his first-round 78, +6, with a second-round 75, +3, to move up to a tie for 19th overall at 153, +9. Gray quickly bounced back from a double-bogey on the par-5, hole No. 5 with a birdie on hole No. 6 to shoot a 39, +3, on the front nine. He then posted two bogeys on the back nine on holes No. 13 and 17 but again followed those up with birdies on No. 14 and 18 to finish with a 36, even-par, on the back nine.
Fifth-year senior States Fort opened his round with back-to-back birdies to go 2-under par after just two holes of play but saw a triple bogey on the par-5, hole No. 5 derail his round on his way to an 86, +19, on the day. With his first-round 77 and second-round 86, Fort is in a tie for 49th overall at 163, +19.
Playing as a substitute in round two for the Chants on Monday was sophomore Jorgen Viken. The first-year Chant, playing in his first Sun Belt Championship event, also shot a triple bogey on the front nine and finished the day with a 91, +19.
Little Rock shot a team-low round of 301, +13, on Monday to climb into the lead at 599, +23, two strokes ahead of No. 43 Georgia Southern who is in second place at 601, +25. UT Arlington is in third place at 607, +31, while Appalachian State and ULM are tied for fourth at 608, +32, after two rounds of play.
The third round of play is scheduled to start on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
All three rounds of stroke play, along with Wednesday's semifinal and championship matches, will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live scored via Golfstat (HERE).
