CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will return to the Stevens Tennis Complex this week for a match against regional opponent South Carolina State on Tuesday, April 6 with a first serve scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
It will be Senior Day for the Chanticleers, as
Gonzalo Achondo,
Pyry Hyrkkonen,
Daiki Tanabe,
Francesco Cori, and
Juan Castellanos will all be honored prior to the match.
Fans will be allowed.
Health and safety protocols for attendance will remain in place to include, but not limited to:
- Face coverings WILL BE required.
- Maintain physical and social distancing at all times.
- NO congregating between individuals or groups outside of your affiliated party.
- NO interaction with student-athletes and coaches at any time.
Coastal Carolina University and the Department of Athletics is committed to providing a safe environment for the enjoyment of our patrons that attend our home intercollegiate athletic events. Individuals that disregard health and safety protocols may be asked to leave.
The Chanticleers enter the matchup with a 6-5 overall record. The Chants are coming off a 5-2 loss on the road versus No.14 ranked Wake Forest on Sunday, April 4.
The Chants are led by transfer
Bastien Huon who is nationally-ranked No. 109 this week with an 8-3 overall record at No. 1 singles, while the doubles pair of
Pyry Hyrkkonen and
Diego Giraldo also entered the week ranked by the ITA tennis poll, coming in at No. 65 this week. The pair are on a three-match winning streak of their own in doubles play.
South Carolina State enters the meeting with a 3-1 record on the year and is coming off a 4-1 setback against Georgia Southern on March 23.
Coastal and South Carolina State have met 15 times in men's tennis action. The Chants hold a slim 8-7 advantage against the Bulldogs and enter on a two-match winning streak against the Bulldogs.
