CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will travel north to Lynchburg, Va. on Saturday, April 10, to take on former conference foe Liberty. The opening draw is scheduled for noon ET.
Coastal enters play this weekend at 7-5 on the season and 1-1 in Southern Conference play after falling to SoCon member Furman on Saturday, April 3.
The Liberty Flames fell to nationally-ranked James Madison in their last outing to fall to 5-5 on the year.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chanticleers have eight players in double digits for points with
Samantha Courtemanche (27 goals, 20 assists, and 47 points) leading the team in goals, assists, and points. Redshirt freshman
Kayla Downey is second with 40 points on 24 goals and 16 assists while redshirt sophomore
Lauren Cremen is third with 24 goals for 24 points. Junior
Megan Bozzi (16 goals, five assists) is fourth with 21 points while true freshman
Monica Manley is fifth in goals scored with 13, ahead of graduate student
Abbey Buchanan (11 goals, five assists) with 16 points, and redshirt senior
Megan Busch (seven goals and 10 assists) with 17 points.
Defensively, the Chants are led by redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Claire Martell who has allowed 121 goals while facing 214 shots on goal. She has tallied 93 saves for a .445 save percentage and has earned all seven wins on the season. The Verbank, N.Y. native has also caused eight turnovers and grabbed up 28 ground balls.
Graduate students
Anya McSorley and
Emily D'Orsaneo aide in the defensive third by causing 22 and 17 turnovers, respectively.
Sarah Trupp, a graduate transfer, has added 14 caused turnovers while scooping up 19 ground balls while D'Orsaneo and McSorley have 26 and 23 ground balls apiece.
ABOUT LIBERTY
The Flames are paced by Brooke Bryan with 23 goals and four assists for 27 points while teammate Leah Ruby is second with 23 points on 13 goals and 10 assists. Along with the two team leaders, Liberty has four more players with double digits for points as Jordan Sheive is third in points with 17 on 12 goals and five assists. Mia Toscano is fourth with 16 points while Carly White and Mackenzie Lehman have 15 and 11 points apiece.
On the defensive third, Jennifer Soriero has played the bulk of the minutes in goal while allowing 103 goals and making 64 saves for a .394 save percentage. The sophomore goalkeeper has caused 13 turnovers while scooping up 35 ground balls.
Sarah Steenson leads the team with 19 caused turnovers while Toscano and Lehman have added 14 caused turnovers. The trio of Steenson, Toscano, and Lehman also have 14, 17, and 16 ground balls, respectively.
