MINNEAPOLIS – Following a pair of first-place finishes in the long jump and high jump events in the T/F47 classification at the 2021 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials, Coastal Carolina's Dallas Wise was nominated to compete for Team USA in this summer's Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. Wise was one of 61 athletes – 35 men and 26 women – chosen to represent the United States of America at the Paralympics on the world's biggest stage beginning Aug. 24.

Wise, who was named to the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field national team recently, is now a member of the 2020 Paralympic Team. Last week, he became the first Chanticleer in school history to qualify for the U.S. at the 2020 U.S. Paralympic Team Trials with first-place finishes in the long jump and high jump of the T/F47 classification.

According to the Paralympic Games Classification, T/F45, T/F46, and T/F47 are for athletes with arm deficiency, impaired muscle power, or impaired passive range of movement in arms, with athletes competing in a standing position.

Wise achieved a mark of 6.85 meters or better two times throughout the long jump competition on Friday, June 18, and scored the first-place finish in his class with a mark of 6.86 meters.

Less than 24 hours after qualifying for his first international competition, Wise returned to the outdoor oval at McKnight Stadium where he recorded another first-place result in his class as he reached the height of 2.02 meters in the high jump.

The Tokyo Paralympic Games run from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5. The track and field competition kicks off on Aug. 27 and concludes on Sept. 5. In a historic move, NBC announced that it will be broadcasting more than 1200 hours of Paralympic coverage including primetime, a first for the Games.
