Women's Soccer Welcomes Wofford for Home Opener, Sunday

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team opens the 2021 season at home as the Chanticleers welcome Wofford on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. ET. The two teams will face off on the CCU Intramural Field, due to improvements taking place at CCU Soccer Stadium.

CCU was scheduled to open the regular season against Charleston Southern on Thursday night, but due to COVID-19 protocols within the Buccaneers program, the match was postponed to a later date.

Sunday's contest marks the start of head coach Paul Hogan's 11th season at the helm and his 15th overall. He enters the season with a 125-102-21 (.546) overall record and is CCU's all-time winningest coach with an 90-86-14 (.511) record.

The Chants were picked fourth (81 points) in the Sun Belt preseason poll, as voted on by conference coaches after finishing the 2020 season 7-8-0 overall, and 6-4-0 in the Sun Belt. Mackenzie Cherry was the lone Chanticleer to be named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team.

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
Wofford finished the 2020-21 season with an overall and SoCon record of 3-4-2, tallying a 2-1-1 record on the road.

Head coach Emily Grant begins her third season as head coach for the Terriers and welcomes 33 players on the roster. The group includes 23 returning players and an incoming class of 10 freshmen.

The Chanticleers and Terriers last met on Aug. 18, 2017, in Spartanburg, S.C. CCU walked away as 3-0 victors.
