RALEIGH, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team opened the 2021 season with a solid showing in a 3-1 loss to North Carolina State on Saturday night in the first of two exhibition matches this preseason.
NCSU did all of its scoring in the first half in the exhibition win. With the Wolfpack already holding a 1-0 lead, Annika Wohner scored two goals in a span of 75 seconds to give the home team all the goals they would need.
From there, the Chanticleers stepped up on the defensive end of the field to hold NCSU scoreless for the final 70 minutes of the contest.
The Chants battled on the offensive end with eight shots but did not find the back of the net until Santana Pressley scored on an unassisted goal in the 76th minute for CCU's lone goal of the match.
The Chants once again this season will field a young team and six of their starters in tonight's action were either freshmen or sophomores while five players saw their first action in a CCU uniform.
NCSU outshot the Chants 14-8 from the field as senior Loranna Austin led CCU with three shots and Lauren Denning added two. Pressley, Ellie Wolski and Megan Brouse had the other three shots.
Coastal will be back in action for their final exhibition match when the Chants travel to Rock Hill to face Winthrop on Wednesday, August 11 at 7 p.m. ET.
