COLUMBIA, S.C. – The (RV) Coastal Carolina men's soccer team earned its win of the Conference USA era, a 4-1 victory on the road at South Carolina Saturday night headlined by
Danny Cabrera's brace.
With the win, Coastal Carolina improves to 1-1-2 overall and 1-0-2 in C-USA play while South Carolina falls to 1-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in C-USA play.
"I am so pleased with our guys tonight," head coach
Shaun Docking said. "I thought they worked very, very hard and did a great job coming back [after the tie]. It is encouraging because we still have a lot to learn and a lot to develop but tonight was a great all-around performance."
The Chanticleers tallied their first goal of the night in the ninth minute, as
Marcelo Lage was able to find the back of the goal as he headed in a pass from
Dimitris Moraitakis. In the 23rd minute, South Carolina's Harrison Myring was shown a red card, and the Gamecocks had to play with 10 men the remainder of the match. However, neither team was able to find the back of the next over the next 20 minutes.
In a half that saw four goals, South Carolina tied the contest at 1-all just 12 minutes following the break.
Danny Cabrera put CCU up 2-1 as he connected with the bottom left corner of the net.
Alvaro Garica-Pasqual tallied his third goal in two matches in the 76th minute before
Cabrera tallied his second goal of the night, his first career brace, in the 83rd minute to put the Chants up 4-1.
In a match that saw five goals, three yellow cards, and one red card, Coastal Carolina tallied 14 shots while South Carolina took 11. The visitors would also find the advantage of shots on goal at 6-4.
The Chanticleers now prepare to welcome USC Upstate to CCU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET in Conway.
