Chanticleers looking for a strong start to the fall season
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team will tee-off the new season at the Badger Invitational running Sept. 26-28, at the University Ridge Golf Course in Fitchburg, Wis.
The three-day event will consist of 54 holes, 18 holes each day, and will consist of 14 teams. Joining CCU and host Wisconsin will be Abilene Christian, Augusta, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, High Point, Illinois State, Iowa State, Northern Illinois, Sam Houston State, South Dakota State, Toledo, and Xavier.
Head Coach Jim Garren will have an experienced Chanticleer team make the trip in Seth Taylor, Connor Newton, Garrett Cooper, Tyler Gray, and Gavin Noble. Freshman Trey Crenshaw will see his first action as a Chanticleer playing as an individual.
"I'm excited to get started for the year and get to Wisconsin for our opener," Garren said. "It's been a long four weeks of "camp" and it's probably been our best preseason practice since I got here a couple of years ago."
"Last spring this team learned how to win and now the next step is learning to win in different parts of the country. It'll be a nice test up there (Wisconsin). University Ridge is a solid golf course and midwestern golf is a little out of our comfort zone. Obviously, Wisconsin at their own place will be a stout test, but Sam Houston State is there and they finished top-15 last year. Iowa State always has a good team and Cincinnati already has a win this season. It's going to be some stout competition and we are looking forward to the challenge."
