The Chanticleers enter Sunday's match 3-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Sun Belt play, while the Warhawks are undefeated at 6-0-0 and have yet to play to a conference game.
CCU tallied its first three points in conference play last Sunday (Sept. 19), a 2-1 overtime victory against App State.
Coastal's
Megan Brouse started the scoring efforts for the Chants, recording her second goal in as many matches in the 46th minute as she connected on a cross from
Sarah Allen before a set-piece goal in the 64th minute by App State tied the contest at 1-all as Sarah Widderich's corner kick was knocked in by teammate Oliva Cohen.
The two teams were unable to break the scoreline over the remainder of the second half and, Coastal Carolina headed to its fourth overtime match of the season.
Just two minutes into the first overtime period, freshman
Gianna Irungaray leapt above the traffic to head in her first career goal on a pass from
Allen who tallied her second assist of the day (third of the season) to earn the 2-1 victory.
SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS
- The ULM soccer team finished the 2020-21 season with an overall record of 5-13-0 before tallying an 0-8-0 record in Sun Belt play, which earned them a 10th place finish in the 2021 Sun Belt Preseason Coaches poll.
- The Warhawks are 6-0 for the first time in program history after a 7-0 win against Mississippi Valley State. It is also the first time ULM has won six consecutive matches in program history.
- ULM has earned honors from the Sun Belt Conference twice so far this season, as Hailey Hillock (Aug. 31) was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Courtney Marten (Sept. 14) was named the Offensive Player of the Week. Hillock's honor came following her back-to-back shutouts earlier this season, while Marten's selection followed her hat trick performance against Alcon.
