Men's Golf Completes Play at Badger Invite

Chants shoot under-par in the final round

VERONA, Wis. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shot a one-under 287 in Tuesday's final round of the Badger Invitational to finish the season-opening event with a 19-over 883 (298-298-287). CCU's final round was tied for the third-low-round of the day and moved the Chants up two spots to finish 11th.
 
Seth Taylor led the Chants with a two-under 70 in the final round. Taylor shot a one-over 37 over his first nine holes and added three birdies and six pars on his second nine. He birdied three of four holes after making the turn, before ending his day with three consecutive pars. He finished tied for 13th with an even-par 216 (73-73-70).
 
Gavin Noble also had a sub-par round, shooting a one-under 71 during Tuesday's action. He had four birdies and three bogeys in his under-par finish. The par-5 holes were big for Noble in the final round, with three birdies on the four par-5 holes on the day. He finished the event with a three-over 219 (74-74-71) and tied for 30th.
 
Coming off a 67 in Monday's action, Trey Crenshaw could not find that momentum in the final round shooting a nine-over 81. He finished tied for 47th with a seven-over 223 (75-67-81) in his first collegiate action.
 
Garrett Cooper completed his tournament with a two-over 74 to finish the event tied for 54th with a 10-over 226 (77-75-74).
 
Connor Newton and Tyler Gray each finished the tournament with a 12-over 228. Gray (80-76-72) shot an even-par over the final round with four birdies among his shots. Newton's three-day scores were 74-78-76 in picking up his final tally. They finished tied for 61st.
 
Illinois State hung on to earn the tourney win with an eight-under 856. Sam Houston (-5, 859) and Cincinnati (-4, 860) were the only other programs to finish under par.
 
Host Wisconsin finished fourth at three-over 867 on their home course, while Northern Illinois placed fifth just one shot back at four-over 868.
 
Teams six through 10 were comprised of Iowa State (+6, 870), High Point (+10, 874), Abilene Christian (+12, 876), Eastern Michigan (+13, 877), and South Dakota State (+17, 881).
 
Behind the Chants came Augusta (+21, 885), Toledo (+22, 886), and Xavier (+42, 906).
 
The Chanticleers will be back in action at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. East Tennessee State will host the event scheduled for Oct. 10-12.
