Beach Volleyball Adds Three Newcomers for 2022 Season

Trio will look to compete right away this spring
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina beach volleyball head coach Steve Loeswick has announced the addition of three newcomers for the 2022 spring season in graduate transfer Natalie Honzovicova (Prague, Czech Republic/Grand Canyon), freshman Raychel Ehlers (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River HS), and mid-year transfer Madie Lichty (Clemmons, N.C./FGCU) to the team this spring for the upcoming 2022 season.
Honzovicova, who joined the team in the fall term, comes to Coastal from Grand Canyon University in Arizona. A 2021 graduate with a bachelor's degree in sports management with a minor in psychology from Grand Canyon, Honzovicova posted a 12-5 record last season for the Lopes, including collecting wins over No. 13 Arizona, No. 8 Pepperdine, No. 16 Long Beach State, and No. 6 Cal Poly.
Prior to coming to the United States and Grand Canyon, Honzovicova finished in ninth place at the 2016 U22 European Championship U22 2016 for Beach and posted a fifth-place finish at the 2017 U21 World Championships in China for Beach. She was also a member of the 2018 U18 Czech Championship Beach team.
A 2021 spring signee, Ehlers comes to the beach from Indian River High School in Dagsboro, Del., where she finished her indoor volleyball high school career with a school-record 1,101 kills to go along with 175 service aces, 77 blocks, and 589 digs.
A two-time all-state selection, earning first-team honors in 2020 and second-team accolades in 2018, Ehlers was also a three-time Henlopen Athletic Conference first-team selection (2018, 2019, and 2020) and a four-time Academic All-Conference honoree.
Ehlers capped her high school career by being named both the 2020 Delaware High School Gatorade Player of the Year and the 2020 Delaware High School Girls' Volleyball State Player of the Year.
Lichty comes to CCU from Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) where she posted a record of 17-14 overall last season as a true freshman while primarily teaming up with Emma Hansen for the Eagles. She also notched a pair of wins over ranked teams with a win on court No. 4 versus No. 14 Stetson (March 20) and against No. 12 FIU (March 27).
While helping lead FGCU to a third-place finish at the 2021 ASUN Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament, Lichty along with Hansen posted a first-round win on court No. 4 over North Alabama by a score of 21-9, 21-17.
From Clemmons, N.C., Lichty lettered in volleyball at West Forsyth High School where she was a four-year varsity starter and all-conference performer on the indoor team. A two-time team captain, she was also a four-year honor roll student and graduated among the top five percent of her class.
While in high school, she also played for the Beach South Volleyball club team and coach Scott Castevens.
The Sandy Chants will kick-off their 2022 spring season at the Dolphin Duels hosted by Jacksonville University on Feb. 25-26 in Jacksonville, Fla.
