CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will return to the hardwood this week, for a home-and-home Sun Belt Conference series with Appalachian State. The opening matchup between the Chanticleers and Mountaineers will take place in Boone, N.C., Wednesday, Jan. 26, at noon ET, with the return meeting taking place in Conway, S.C., Saturday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. ET, after the men's home basketball contest against Little Rock slated for 1 p.m. ET.
The Jan. 26 game is being held at noon for Education Day.
Coastal will look to rebound from back-to-back losses to Little Rock (54-50) and Arkansas State (81-60) two weeks ago, and return to action after last week's scheduled home games against ULM and Louisiana were canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the program. The Chants are 12-4 overall on the season and 2-3 in SBC play, while the Mountaineers are 9-8 on the year and 3-1 in SBC play.
The Chanticleers are 10-1 at home this season, while App State is 3-5 on the road on the season.
On Saturday, the 2021 Coastal Carolina football team will be recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game for its 11-win season and winning the program's first-ever FBS postseason bowl game.
The softball team will also be signing autographs between the men's and women's basketball games at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
COASTAL vs. APPALACHIAN STATE HISTORY
The Mountaineers hold a 10-7 advantage in the overall series, which began in 1984 with App State jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first five meetings. The road team holds the advantage in the series, with the Mountaineers having a slim 4-3 lead in Conway, while the Chants have a 4-2 lead in Boone. Since joining the Sun Belt in 2016-17, Coastal and Appalachian State have met 12 times with each team winning six games apiece.

Aja Blount leads the Chants with an average of 18.4 points per game, while true freshmen

Kalaya Buggs is leading the team with 2.5 assists per game on the year. This season, the Chants are averaging 73.9 points per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the hardwood.
On the defensive end of the floor, Blount is the team's top rebounder having grabbed 142 boards on the season to average 8.9 boards per game, while both
Janeen Camp and
Janae Camp are tied for second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game. Senior
Janeen Camp has blocked 32 shots over the first 16 contests, as the Chants are allowing just 54.9 points per game and holding opponents to a 34.4 shooting percentage.
ABOUT APPALACHIAN STATE
App State is averaging 67.5 points per game in their 17 games on the year while shooting 39.7 percent from the floor overall. The Mountaineers' offense is led by Michaela Porter with 13.4 points per game, while Alexia Allesch and Janay Sanders are chipping in with 12.5 and 11.5 points per contest, respectively. Faith Alston leads the Mountaineers with 52 assists, while Sanders has aided teammates 35 times.
Defensively, App State is allowing their opponents to shoot 40.8 percent from the field while allowing just 66.1 points per game. Porter and Allesch are the top rebounders grabbing 100 and 98 rebounds, respectively, while the duo of Porter and Emily Carver leads the team with 45 and 21 steals apiece.
