Coastal Carolina Returns Home Against Georgia Southern and Georgia State

Chanticleers look to bounce back after falling on the road at Troy

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will welcome Georgia Southern and Georgia State to the HTC Center this week, as the Chanticleers will first play the Eagles on Thursday, Jan. 6, before hosting the Panthers, on Saturday, Jan. 8.
 
Coastal will look to jump back into the win column after opening Sun Belt Conference action with a 91-80 loss to the Troy Trojans, Thursday, Dec. 30. The Chants are 10-2 overall on the season and 0-1 in SBC play, while Georgia Southern is 10-3 on the year and 1-0 in conference action. The Panthers have yet to have a Sun Belt Conference matchup but are currently 6-6 on the season.
 
The Chanticleers are 8-1 at the HTC Center this season, while the Eagles (3-2) and Georgia State (2-3) are a combined 5-5 on the road this season.
 
COASTAL vs. GEORGIA SOUTHERN HISTORY
 
The two teams will meet for the 11th time with both teams having won five games apiece, as the two teams did not compete against each other in the 2020-21 season. The Eagles have a 3-2 record on their home court versus the Chanticleers while Coastal owns a 3-1 record in Conway, S.C.
 
The series began in December of 1995, with Georgia Southern holding a 3-1 record in non-conference meetings while the Chants are 4-2 against the Eagles since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2016-17.
 
COASTAL vs. GEORGIA STATE HISTORY
 
In a series that began in 1992, Coastal Carolina holds a 7-5 record in the overall series with the Georgia State Panthers, with the Panthers earning three victories in the 2020-21 season to close the gap.
 
Since joining the Sun Belt, the Chants are 5-4 against Georgia State. The Panthers are 3-3 on the road but are 2-3 at home against CCU.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
Senior forward Aja Blount leads the Chants with an average of 18.3 points per game while true freshmen Angie Juste-Jean and Arin Freeman are averaging 9.6 and 9.3 points per contest, respectively. Freeman is leading the team with 3.1 assists per game in the first 12 games. This season, the Chants are averaging 77.2 points per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the hardwood.
 
On the defensive end of the floor, Blount is the team's top rebounder having grabbed 102 on the season to average 8.5 boards per game while Janae Camp is second on the team with 6.4 rebounds per game. Senior Janeen Camp has blocked 25 shots over the first 12 contests, as the Chants are allowing just 51.9 points per game and holding opponents to a 33.2 shooting percent.
 
ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHERN
 
Georgia Southern is averaging 86.6 points per game in the Eagles' first 13 games of the year while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor overall. The Eagles' offense is led by Terren Ward with 13.1 points per game while Mya Burns is chipping in with 12.8 points per contest. Ja'nya Love-Hill leads Georgia Southern with 39 assists while Daeja Holmes has aided teammates 34 times.
 
Defensively, the Eagles are allowing their opponents to shoot 37.7 percent from the field while allowing just 65.8 points per game. Eden Johnson and Burns are the top rebounders grabbing 78 and 61 rebounds, respectively, while the duo of Holmes and Love-Hill leads the team with 26 and 21 steals apiece.
 
ABOUT GEORGIA STATE
 
The Panthers enter play averaging 66.8 points per game in its first 12 games of the year while hitting 40.1 percent of their shots. Georgia State's offense is led by the duo of Ashley Foster (11.3 ppg) and Taylor Henderson (9.3 ppg) as the pair is averaging over 9.0 points per game this season.
 
Defensively, GSU is allowing their opponents to shoot 40.3 percent from the field and score 69.5 points per game. Taniyah Worth and Foster lead the team with 4.6 and 4.3 rebounds per game, respectively, while Worth (18), Foster (17), and Mikyla Tolivert (11) lead the Panthers' defense with double-digit steals apiece.
