Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Strong Weekend at the ITA Regional Championships

Coastal’s Hopton and Hollins were co-champions in the B1 Singles Main Draw

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Super senior Megan Hopton and junior Jesse Hollins would be crowned co-champions in the B1 Singles Main Draw, while junior transfer Kata Foldeak earned a win in the finals of the B2 Singles Consolation Bracket to wrap up the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team's weekend at the 2022 ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.

"We play in the toughest regional in the country and the ladies showed a lot of grit, heart, and fight. We made great improvements, especially in singles, and are very pleased with our showing," said head coach Catherine Hewitt. "To have five players still competing on Sunday showed how hard our ladies have been working."

It would be an all-Coastal finals in the B1 Singles Main Draw, as Hopton easily defeated Annie Jennings of South Carolina 6-4, 6-0 in straight sets in the semifinals, while Hollins dominated in her semifinals contest, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Andrea Redondo of Western Carolina.

With two Chants in the finals, the team elected not to play the match.

In the finals of the B2 Singles Consolation Bracket, Foldeak held on to win the first set 7-5 before cruising in the second set at 6-1 to defeat the No. 4-seeded Dasha Osadova of Western Carolina.

In the A1 Singles Consolation Bracket, Victoire De Samucewicz fell in straight sets to Marina Skegro of Charleston Southern 7-5, 6-1, while in the A2 Singles Consolation Bracket, fellow Chant Anna Babayan suffered a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 defeat to Slade Coetzee of the College of Charleston.

Coastal will take a few weeks off from competition before wrapping up the 2022 fall season at the Stetson Invitational on Nov. 4-7 in DeLand, Fla.
