GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team continued its strong start to the 2022 fall season by going 15-3 overall on day one of the UNCG Spartan Fall Invitational on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C.
 
Coastal swept the home-standing Spartans in singles play, going 8-0 overall, highlighted by a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win by Neil O'Connor on court No. 5.
 
Maj Tomac (6-0, 6-3), Steve Mundt (6-0, 6-2), and Rivers Cahill (6-1, 6-3) were all victorious in straight sets on courts No. 6, 7, and 8, while Guilherme Toresan scored a 6-1, 6-2 win on court No. 1 and Lucas Wayenburg added a 6-3, 6-3 victory on court No. 3.
 
Scoring wins to complete the sweep were Ryuya Ata 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (9) on court No. 2 and Carlos Berna Ruiz 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10) on court No. 4.
 
The Chants continued to roll in singles play versus Elon, going 4-2 versus the Phoenix on Saturday.
 
Despite losing at the top two flights, the Chants took each of the next four bouts. Wayenburg won 6-4, 6-3 on court No. 3, while Berna Ruiz cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win on court No. 4.
 
The other two wins came by way of O'Connor at the No. 5 spot by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4) and Cahill on court No. 6 at 6-1, 6-0.
 
In doubles play, the Chants took three of four matches versus N.C. Central.
 
The 2022 All-Sun Belt duo of Berna Ruiz and Mundt won 7-6 (6) on court No. 1, while the other two wins came in dominant fashion, as Tomac and Ata and Wayenburg and Toresan both won by matching scores of 6-2 on courts No. 2 and No. 3.
 
The Chants will continue play at the Spartan Fall Invitational tomorrow.
