CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team is set to host Methodist University Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. ET at the HTC Center.
The Chants and Monarchs will meet on the hardcourt for the seventh time on Friday night with CCU winning each of the previous six contests, all of which have been in Conway. The series started in the 1977-78 season, a close 80-78 victory by the Chants. The last time the two teams met was in 2021, a 102-42 Chanticleer victory. It was the largest margin of victory in the series history.
The Chanticleers won their first game of the season with a 97-43 win over St. Mary's (Md.) on Monday night. A total of 11 Chanticleers saw action on the court, with eight of those seeing action for the first time for the Teal and Bronze.
Essam Mostafa led four double-digit scorers with 22 points. He also completed the 22nd double-double of his career with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Jomaru Brown came off the bench for the Chants and the first-year Chant responded with 19 points, while fellow transfer
Linton Brown made a game-high four three-point field goals on his way to 18 points.
Another returner from last season,
Josh Uduje, finished the game with 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 26 minutes of action.
Methodist (0-1) enters the game coming off a season-opening loss at Guilford, 80-59. The Monarchs return six players from last season's roster to go along with 10 newcomers.
TJ East was one of three players to reach double digits for the Monarchs in their first game of the season. He had a team-high 18 points, with Clayton Cole scoring 12 and Brone Brinson chipping in with 10.
