Chanticleers to Host Coker in Home Opener

Coastal Carolina women’s basketball will host its home opener on Wednesday at the HTC Center

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will host the Coker Cobras in their 2022-23 regular-season home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
 
CCU is 0-3 on the season and looking for its first win of the year, while Coker, who will play Fayetteville State on Tuesday, Nov. 22, is 3-0 on the year.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
The Chanticleers fell 84-69 to in-state foe Wofford last week. CCU's Aja Blount led four players in double-digits with 21 points, as Anaya Barney, Angie Juste-Jean, and Arin Freeman chipped in with 15, 14, and 12 points, respectively. Blount was the team's leading rebounder with seven boards on the night.  
 
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND COKER
 
Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series 37-0, while the last meeting between the two schools was in November of 2011. The Chanticleers have hosted the Cobras 21 times winning all 21.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants are averaging 61.0 points per game while shooting 37.0 percent from the field and 32.8 from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal has allowed 80.3 points per game while its opponents are shooting 45.8 percent from the floor. The Chanticleers have been outrebounded 113-101 this season.
 
Blount leads three Chants in double-digit scoring with 14.3 points per game, while Juste-Jean and Barney are scoring 13.3 and 11.3, respectively. Aside from scoring, Blount leads the team with 7.7 rebounds per game with Barney and Freeman adding 5.0 boards each.
 
ABOUT COKER
 
The Coker Cobras return 13 players from the 2021-22 team that finished last season with a 6-20 record and a 5-19 mark in the South Atlantic Conference. The Cobras' leading scorer is Abigail Keesling with 13.0 points per game, while Valicia Demeritte and Dominique Rodriguez have chipped in with 11.3 and 9.7 points per contest, respectively.
 
As a team, Coker is averaging 65.3 points per contest while allowing 52.7 points per game. The Cobras have outshot their opponent's 35.7 percent to 25.7 percent from the floor. On the year, Coker has grabbed 143 rebounds, while their opponents have grabbed 134 boards in the three games.
