CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will return to the road for a contest at the Wake Forest Demon Deacons of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on Sunday, Nov. 27. The opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
CCU is 1-3 on the season after picking up its first win of the season in the Chants' last outing, while Wake Forest is 3-3 on the year.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chanticleers picked up their first win of the season at 104-39 versus in-state foe Coker last Wednesday. CCU's
Aja Blount led five players in double digits with 20 points, as
Jordyn Newsome,
Arin Freeman,
Angie Juste-Jean, and
B'Aunce Carter chipped in with 19, 18, 10, and 10 points, respectively. Blount was the team's leading rebounder with 13 boards for her 18th career double-double.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND WAKE FOREST
CCU trails in the all-time series 5-1, with the Chants picking up a 72-60 win at home on Jan. 09, 2000, for Coastal's lone win in the series. The Demon Deacons have a two-game winning streak with a pair of wins coming back in January 2001 and December 2015.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chants are averaging 71.8 points per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 37.7 from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal has allowed 69.8 points per game, while its opponents are shooting 42.2 percent from the floor. The Chanticleers have won the rebounding battle 151-135 this season.
Blount leads three Chants in double-digit scoring with 15.8 points per game, while Juste-Jean and Barney are scoring 12.5 and 11.3, respectively. Aside from scoring, Blount leads the team with 9.0 rebounds per game, with Barney and Freeman adding 5.0 and 4.8 boards, respectively.
ABOUT WAKE FOREST
The Deacs return junior Jewel Spear, the ACC's leading scoring, from the 2021-22 team that finished last season with a 16-17 record and a 4-14 mark in the ACC. Wake Forest returns five players that started 17 or more games last season. The Demon Deacons are under new leadership in head coach Megan Gebbia. She comes to Wake Forest after pervious stops at American (2013-22) and Marist (2003-13).
As a team, the Deacons are averaging 60.0 points per contest while allowing 58.2 points per game. WF has outshot their opponent's 38.4 percent to 37.1 percent from the floor. On the year, Wake Forest has grabbed 237 rebounds, while their opponents have grabbed 212 boards in the six games played.
Spear leads the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game, while Kaia Harrison, Demeara Hinds, and Elise Williams are all averaging over 8.0 points per contest. Hinds is the leading rebounder with 9.7 boards per game.
