CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will return to the HTC Center for a contest versus in-state foe the Furman Paladins on Saturday, Dec. 11. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
CCU is 2-5 on the season after falling 85-81 on the road in the Chants' last outing, while the Paladins are 6-4 on the year.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped teddy bear or stuffed animal with the tags on it for $5 entry to the game. All stuffed animals will be collected between the third and fourth quarters and donated to Tidelands Health.
SUN BELT CONFERENCE AWARDS
Graduate student
Aja Blount was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performances versus South Carolina State and the College of Charleston. The Northampton, Pa., native averaged 22.5 points and 13 boards per game in both contests.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chanticleers fell to the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C., in their last outing. Blount recorded her 21st career double-double to lead five Chants in double-digit scoring. The 5-11 forward scored a season-high 24 points and hauled in a season-high 15 rebounds to lead Coastal Carolina.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND FURMAN
CCU trails in the all-time series 18-2, with the Paladins holding a three-game winning streak. The last Chanticleer win was in December of 2003 as the Chants won 71-67.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chants are averaging 73.7 points per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 34.3 from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal has allowed 70.9 points per game while its opponents are shooting 42.4 percent from the floor. The Chanticleers have won the rebounding battle at 268-235 this season.
Blount leads three Chants in double-digit scoring with 18.6 points per game, while
Arin Freeman and
Anaya Barney are scoring 11.1 and 10.2, respectively. Aside from scoring, Blount leads the team with 10.0 rebounds per game with Freeman and Barney adding 4.4 and 4.3 boards, respectively.
ABOUT FURMAN
As a team, the Paladins are averaging 71.0 points per contest while allowing 60.7 points per game. Furman has been outshot by its opponent's 38.4 percent to 38.3 percent from the floor. On the year, the Paladins have grabbed 449 rebounds, while their opponents have grabbed 339 boards in the 10 games played.
Jaelyn Acker, Grace van Rij, and Sydney are the only Paladins scoring more than 10 points per game, as Acker leads the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game, while van Rij and Ryan have chipped in with 12.8 and 10.8 points per contest, respectively. Jada Session (7.7) and Ryan (7.1) lead Furman on the boards, as they both are grabbing more than seven rebounds per contest.
