Chanticleers to Host Erskine on Thursday

Coastal Carolina women’s basketball seeks back-to-back wins on the season

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will return to action for a home contest versus the Erskine Fleet on Thursday, Dec. 15. The opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET inside the HTC Center.
 
CCU is 3-5 on the season after picking up a 69-54 home win last time out. The Fleet are 3-4 and 1-2 in Conference Carolinas play on the year.
 
Erskine will play later today as the Fleet will travel to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Chowan University.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
The Chanticleers defeated the Furman Paladins 69-54 to claim their third home win of the season. Coastal's defense stepped up huge in the win, as CCU's defense shut out the Paladins in the second quarter and outscored the visitors from Greenville, S.C., 24-0 to take a commanding lead at halftime.
 
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND ERSKINE
 
Coastal trails in the all-time series with the Fleet 12-6, yet holds a five-game winning streak. The last time the two teams played, CCU claimed a 50-point margin of victory at 74-24 last season.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants are averaging 73.1 points per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the field and 31.3 from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal has allowed 68.8 points per game while its opponents are shooting 41.0 percent from the floor. The Chanticleers have won the rebounding battle at 318-276 this season.
 
Aja Blount leads three Chants in double-digit scoring with 18.3 points per game, while Arin Freeman and Anaya Barney are scoring 11.3 and 10.7, respectively. Aside from scoring, Blount leads the team with 9.9 rebounds per game with Freeman and Barney adding 5.9 and 4.3 boards, respectively.
 
ABOUT ERSKINE
 
As a team, the Fleet are averaging 51.4 points per contest while allowing 57.0 points per game. Erskine has been outshot by its opponents 37.6 percent to 27.8 percent from the floor. On the year, the Fleet have grabbed 250 rebounds, while their opponents have grabbed 311 boards in the seven games played.
 
Anzya Cook is the only Fleet scoring more than 10 points per game, as she leads the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game, while Shanece Mitchell and Janelle Carter have chipped in with 9.0 and 6.1 points per contest, respectively. Cook (4.6) and Carter (4.6) lead Erskine on the boards, as they both are grabbing more than four rebounds per contest.
