Men's Basketball to Host the College of Charleston

Cougars enter the game with only one loss

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team will be back home to host the College of Charleston, Monday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. ET at the HTC Center.

The Chants (6-4) are coming off a solid 87-86 road win at South Dakota and will be looking to win their third consecutive game for the first time this season. Meanwhile, the Cougars (11-1) come into Conway with a 10-game winning streak, with the only loss a 102-86 setback at North Carolina in the Cougars' second game of the season.

The Chants and Cougars have met 50 times on the hardcourt, making the Cougars the sixth-most played opponent in Coastal Carolina history. The series trails only former Big South foes Winthrop (85 games), UNC Asheville (73 games), Charleston Southern (70 games), Radford (59 games), and Liberty (55 games).

The College of Charleston owns a 39-11 lead in the series and has won each of the last three games by a combined 11 points, including the last outing in 2019 in which the Cougars hit a three-point field goal in the closing seconds for a 73-71 win.

Both teams are averaging just under 80 points per game and have multiple players scoring in double digits. The Chants will look to Jomaru Brown and his 16.6 points per game average to lead the CCU scoring efforts. Essam Mostafa will also look to continue his strong start to the season, as the redshirt junior is averaging 14.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He has a Sun Belt Conference-leading seven double-doubles on the season, which is third nationally.

Linton Brown is coming off a 14-point effort at South Dakota, buoyed by a 4-for-5 performance on his three-point attempts. He is averaging 12.0 points per game while leading the team with 21 three-point field goals. Sophomore Josh Uduje enters the game averaging 11.1 points per game.

The Chanticleers are coming off a 22-for-24 performance at the free throw line and will enter the game shooting 81.5 percent at the charity strip on the season, which leads the Sun Belt Conference and is fifth nationally.

The Cougars also have four double-digit scorers on their roster. Dalton Bolon leads CofC in scoring at 12.4 points per game, followed by Ryan Larson and his 11.5 points per game.

Pat Robinson is shooting 51 percent from the field and is averaging 10.6 points per game, while Reyne Smith leads the team with 30 three-point field goals and is averaging 10.4 points per game.
