CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team will host Florida Gulf Coast in a quarterfinal game of The Basketball Classic presented by Eracism on Monday, March 21, at 7 p.m. ET at the HTC Center.
CCU (17-13) defeated UMES 66-42 in the Basketball Classic Zelmo Beaty Classic first-round game, while FGCU (22-11) defeated Detroit Mercy 95-79 in the first round. It will be the first meeting between the two programs.
The Chanticleers completed the 2021-22 season with a 16-13 overall record and had an 8-8 record during Sun Belt Conference play. Second-team All-Sun Belt pick
Vince Cole led the Chants on offense averaging over 15 points per game.
Rudi Williams averaged 13.9 points per game and
Essam Mostafa averaged 13.3 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game. He completed the season with 12 double-doubles.
FGCU completed its season at 21-11 overall and 10-6 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Eagles played into the second round of the ASUN Tournament and are led by All-ASUN picks Tavian Dunn-Martin and Kevin Samuel. Dunn-Martin was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year, while Samuel was selected as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year. Both players were also named to the All-ASUN first team and second team, respectively.
