JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams concluded the weekend at the University of North Florida Invitational on Saturday, where they had several solid showings, including setting two new school records and posting a couple of first-place finishes.
On the women's side,
Jermaisha Arnold won the 400-meter event in 52.11 seconds, which is a new personal best and school record, while
Alexis Glasco crossed the line fifth in the 100-meter hurdles finals in 13.26 seconds but set a new CCU record with a personal best time of 13.15 in the prelims.
Molly Jones earned a win in the 5000-meter open event with a new personal best time of 17:08.33, which is also the ninth-best time in school history, while in the 800-meters,
Amilia Wise-Sweat posted a new personal best and the fifth-best time in school history at 2:11.66 to finish 11th overall.
Three Chants earned a top-10 finish in the high jump, as
Camryn Lorick's new personal best leap of 1.68M earned a fifth-place finish and put her in a tie for seventh overall in CCU's record books. Teammates
Kadasia Evans (1.63M) and
Keiran Martin (1.58M) followed in ninth and 10th places, respectively. Martin's leap was also a new personal best.
A pair of Chanticleer relay teams finished in the top five during the 4x400 meter event, led by the quartet of
Mekenze Kelley, Arnold,
Melissa Jefferson, and
Shani'a Bellamy, who posted the third-best time in CCU history for the event in 3:36.25.
Amelia Canetto,
Lauren Gordon, Glasco, and
Tariney Pepper crossed the line fourth with a time of 3:48.49.
On the men's side,
Braydon Bennett earned a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with his time of 13.87, which is the second-best time in program history for that specific event, while
Jack Benoit (1:56.55) and
Tomas Duncan (1:59.69) each posted a new personal best in the 800-meters.
The team of
Reggie Barlow, DeVonte Harris,
Ty Floyd, and
Keshon Sapp came home third in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 40.94.
In the field events,
Aaron Pierce posted a sixth-place finish in the javelin throw with a toss of 53.20 meters, while
Major Chestnut (45.76M) and
Michael Martello (41.30M) each finished inside the top 20 during the discus throw.
The Chanticleers will return to action on Thursday, May 12, at the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Lafayette, Louisiana.
