BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The last day of the NCAA Outdoor East Regionals on Saturday proved to be quite the historic one for members of the Coastal Carolina women's track & field team as six Chanticleers qualified for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Kayla Sweeney, Shani'a Bellamy, Jermaisha Arnold, and Melissa Jefferson qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon with an eighth-place finish, a new school record, and Sun Belt Conference record time of 43.49 in the 4x100-meter relay.
 
Jefferson also earned berths to the championships in both the 100-meters (11.24) and 200-meters (22.76), while Bellamy and Alexis Glasco both advanced in the 100-meter hurdle event with 11th (13.32) and 12th-place (13.33) finishes, respectively.  Bellamy also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 56.65.
 
Arnold and Mekenze Kelley both placed in the top-10 of the 400-meter quarterfinals, as Arnold came home fifth and set a new school record time of 51.54 seconds, while Kelley finished tied for 10th with a time of 52.07.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Amelia Canetto, Arnold, Glasco, and Lauren Gordon finished 18th in the quarterfinal round with a time of 3:40.75.
 
Six Chants in Arnold, Bellamy, Glasco, Jefferson, Kelley, and Sweeney will now set their sights on the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place in Eugene, Oregon, from Wednesday, June 8, until Saturday, June 11.
