CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina right-handed pitcher
Jacob Maton signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Texas Rangers organization.
Maton, who did not take the mound in his first two years as a Chanticleer in 2019 and 2020 due to an injury and the COVID-19 pandemic, got stronger as his career continued in each of the last two seasons.
In 2022, Maton came out of the bullpen all season long for the Chants, going 1-1 with three saves and a 3.41 ERA over a team-high 25 appearances on the mound. He fanned 30 batters over 29.0 innings pitched and did not allow an earned run over his first 15.1 innings on the season.
Over his two years on the mound for Coastal, he was 3-4 with three saves and a 5.24 ERA over 40 appearances, which included nine starts in 2021. He fanned 75 batters over 77.1 innings pitched.
Maton joins his two brothers, Phil and Nick, as professional baseball players. Phil is a right-handed pitcher for the Houston Astros, while Nick is an infielder in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
