Box Score CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with the Jacksonville Dolphins in the regular-season opener on Thursday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
With the draw, both CCU and Jacksonville are 0-0-1 overall to start the 2022 campaign.
In the season opener for both programs, senior
Megan Brouse showed why she was the Chants' leading score a year ago as the Phoenix, Ariz., native found the back of the net in the 13th minute on a pass from
Tori Carnevale to give the host a 1-0 advantage.
However, just seven minutes later, the Dolphins responded with back-to-back goals as Olivia Abdallah tied the contest at 1-1 in the 20th minute, followed by teammate Beyonce Robinson giving Jacksonville the go-ahead goal in the 26th minute to put the visitors up 2-1.
Just 10 minutes after the halftime break, Coastal freshman
Julia Ziegenfuss continued what she started in the preseason as she connected on a pass from teammates
Taylor Tolson and Brouse to tie the contest at 2-2 in the 55th minute.
Ziegenfuss looked to put the Chants back on top in the 77th minute as the Jupiter, Fla., native fired a shot just wide of the net. The remainder of the contest was a back-and-forth battle with both teams taking a combined 11 shots.
In goal for CCU, graduate transfer
Katelyn Kellogg made her first start as a Chant, picking up four saves on the match, including a pivotal stop in the 79th minute on a shot by JU's Robinson.
The Chanticleers will hit the road for the first time this season and make the short trip south to Charleston as Coastal squares off against the College of Charleston on Sunday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. ET.
