Women’s soccer to face UNCW Aug. 28

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell on the road to the College of Charleston 3-0 on Sunday night.

With the loss, the Chanticleers are now 0-1-1 overall, while the Cougars improve to 2-0-0 on the season with the win.

Just 17 seconds into the match, College of Charleston's Delany Dawes gave the host a 1-0 advantage when she connected on a pass from Olivia Freitas. The Cougars added their second goal of the night in the 16th minute as Freitas received a pass from Faith Slimmer and was able to get a shot off around a diving Katelyn Kellogg. Notably, Kellogg tallied a Coastal Carolina career-high eight saves in goal against the Cougars.

Redshirt senior Sarah Allen tallied CCU's first shot of the night in the 24th minute but it was saved by CofC's goalkeeper. Allen's shot was the Chants' lone shot-on-goal of the match.

Charleston found the back of the net for the final time in the 59th minute as Grace Powell gave the home team a 3-0 advantage.

The Cougars found the advantage in total shots at 28-6, while the Chanticleers recorded a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Coastal Carolina will remain on the road and head north to face UNC Wilmington on Sunday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET from the UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, N.C.
