CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team remains on the road and seeks its first win of the 2022 season as the Chants are set to face UNCW on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. ET.
The Chanticleers enter the match 0-1-1 overall while the Seahawks sit at 1-1-0 overall.
Coastal Carolina opened the road portion of their schedule at the College of Charleston on Aug. 21, a match they dropped 3-0 to the Cougars.
Just 17 seconds into the match, College of Charleston's Delany Dawes gave the host a 1-0 advantage when she connected on a pass from Olivia Freitas. The Cougars added their second goal of the night in the 16th minute as Freitas received a pass from Faith Slimmer and was able to get a shot off around a diving
Katelyn Kellogg. Notably, Kellogg tallied a Coastal Carolina career-high eight saves in goal against the Cougars.
Redshirt senior Sarah Allen tallied CCU's first shot of the night in the 24th minute but it was saved by CofC's goalkeeper. Allen's shot was the Chants' lone shot-on-goal of the match. Charleston found the back of the net for the final time in the 59th minute as Grace Powell gave the home team a 3-0 advantage.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
- After finishing the 2021 season 11-4-1 overall, 7-2-0 in CAA play and earning the Regular Season Champions title, UNCW was picked to finish first of the 12 teams in the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll.
- Graduate students Morgan Nanni and Talia Parrous were both named to the CAA Preseason All-Conference team while junior Blair Barefoot and sophomore Kayla Burroughs each picked up Honorable Mention recognition.
- Both the Seahawks and Chanticleers face familiar foes this fall, as both teams are scheduled to face High Point and Campbell.
