WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team rallied from a two-goal halftime deficit to forge a 4-2 victory on the road over William & Mary on Sunday afternoon.
With the Win, Coastal improves to 2-0-0 overall on the season, while the loss drops William & Mary to 0-1-1 overall.
William & Mary wasted no time making its presence known in the first half as the Tribe recorded their first goal of the match just seven minutes in, as Nathan Messer connected on a pass from Diba Nwegbo and Alexander Levengood.
With one minute remaining in the first half, William & Mary's Webb Kosich found his way around a diving
Joey Batrouni to put the host up 2-0. However, Batrouni tallied a crucial save with a second left before the break to keep the Tribe from adding another goal.
It was a tale of two halves, as
Marcello Jones notched the first goal for the Chanticleers in the second half when he connected on a ball from
Noah Glorioso in the 52nd minute
to cut the Tribe's lead to just one and make the score 2-1.
Shortly after, Coastal was awarded a corner kick that
Emile Rzepecki sent into the box that found the head of
Alvaro Garcia-Pascual, who leaped above the William & Mary defenders for the Chanticleers' second set piece goal of the day and tied the match up at 2-2 in the 66th minute.
Maurice Hauser recorded his second goal in as many games, this one as his first game-winner, as the freshman collected a pass from teammates
Danny Cabrera and
Noe Santos in the 81st minute to give Coastal a 3-2 lead. On a through ball from Glorioso,
Lucio Berron notched Coastal Carolina's final goal of the day with just under two minutes of play remaining, as he put the ball into the back of the net to make the score 4-2.
Coastal Carolina found the advantage in total shots at 13-9, with all four of the Chanticleers' goals coming in the second half off just seven shots.
The Chanticleers will remain on the road and face UNCG Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. ET in Greensboro, N.C.
