Box Score CONWAY, S.C. – Headlined by
Megan Brouse's first two-goal brace of the season, the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team battled Charleston Southern to an even 2-2 draw on Wednesday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
Coastal now sits at 0-2-2 overall, while Charleston Southern is now 2-1-1 on the season.
The Buccaneers took an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as Bri Robinson picked up a loose ball in the box that she was able to get past Coastal goalkeeper
Katelyn Kellogg.
Brouse knotted the score up at 1-1 in the 31st minute on a long ball from
Taylor Tolson to put the home team on the scoreboard before halftime. She went on to add her second of the night in the 51st minute, as she picked up a pass from freshman
Julia Ziegenfuss that Brouse was able to get around the Bucs' goalkeeper to put Coastal up 2-1.
With just eight minutes remaining in the contest, CSU's Gracen Beilstein sent a high-arching shot over a leaping Kellogg and created the 2-2 scoreline in the 82nd minute.
Brouse looked to tally her second career hat-trick with less than a minute to play as the Phoenix, Ariz. native, collected a ball outside the box that she fired into the goal, but it connected with the crossbar and slipped over the top of the goal.
CCU ended the night with a 16-7 shooting advantage, including a 9-4 shots on goal tilt.
The Chanticleers will remain at home and welcome former Big South foe Campbell to Conway on Sunday, Sept. 4.
