Women’s Tennis Set for Fall Opener at CSU Invitational

Chanticleers will compete at Charleston Southern this weekend
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team will open up its 2022 fall season this weekend at the CSU Invitational, hosted by Charleston Southern University at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center on Sept. 16-18.
The three-day fall event will feature the Buccaneers and Chanticleers, as well as, the College of Charleston and Wofford.
The Chanticleers return five letterwinners from a season ago, headlined by All-Sun Belt performers Victoire De Samucewicz and Jesse Hollins. De Samucewicz is a two-time All-Sun Belt second-team honoree for singles play and was named to the 2022 All-Sun Belt first-team for doubles last year along with Hollins.
Also returning this season for the Chants are super senior Megan Hopton, junior Isabella Weatherhead, and sophomore Anna Babayan. Hopton and Babayan are both in their second seasons at Coastal and played in 17 matches or more last spring. In her third year with the Chants, Weatherhead will compete for more playing time this season, having played in just four matches a year ago.
In addition to the returners, head coach Catherine Hewitt brought in a trio of experienced transfers in Tatum Burger, Lilie Steryous, and Kata Foldeak.
A graduate transfer, Burger was a three-time All-Summit League selection and a 2019 Summit League Newcomer of the Year in four seasons at Denver. Fellow graduate transfer Steryous was a 2021 All-SoCon first-team selection in singles play and a 2022 All-SoCon second-team honoree in doubles action at Wofford.
A junior transfer from Western Carolina, Foldeak was named to the 2021 All-SoCon first team and earned a spot on the 2021 SoCon All-Freshman team before playing in all 21 matches for the Catamounts in 2022.
