CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team opened up its 2022 fall season on Friday, posting a total of eight wins overall on day one of the CSU Invitational in Charleston, S.C.
 
Highlighting the day was newcomer Lilie Steryous who went 3-0 with one win in doubles play and two singles victories overall, while sophomore Anna Babayan went 2-1 on Friday.
 
In the morning session, the Chants posted two wins in doubles play versus the Wofford Terriers. At the No. 2 doubles, the duo of Steryous and Kata Foldeak defeated Wofford's Brianna Wilbur and Breda Brennan 6-4, while at flight No. 3 the team of Tatum Burger and Babayan won a tiebreaker to take the match 7-6 over Emely Kahrs and Catherine Blouin.
 
In the first round of singles play, the Chants faced off with host Charleston Southern, taking wins at the No. 6 and No. 7 flights. At the No. 6 spot, Steryous defeated Tiffany Pyritz 6-1, 6-3, while Megan Hopton beat Marina Skegro in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 on court No. 7.
 
Coastal continued play on day one with a second singles round versus the College of Charleston, winning four of the eight bouts in the match. Steryous remained unbeaten on Friday, winning 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot over Maja Jekauc, while Babayan won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 over CofC's Stephens.
 
Jesse Hollins went on to defeat Salvato 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 7 flight, while Isabella Weatherhead cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Helena Huff at the No. 8 spot.
 
The Chanticleers will return to action tomorrow for day two of the CSU Invitational.
