CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will return to the road and is set to face Louisiana on Sunday, Oct. 2 in Lafayette, La. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
The Chanticleers enter Sunday with a 1-6-2 overall mark and 0-3-0 Sun Belt Conference record, while the Ragin' Cajuns enter at 1-5-4 overall and are 0-2-1 in conference action.
COASTAL VS. LOUISIANA
Sunday will mark the eighth all time-meeting between CCU and Louisiana. CCU holds a 4-2-1 advantage over the Ragin' Cajuns.
The two squads last met on October 8, 2021. A 1-0 victory for Coastal Carolina in Conway.
LAST TIME OUT
CCU fell at home last Sunday, 3-1, to Georgia State in a Sun Belt Conference match.
Georgia State took an early 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the contest when Alondra Nieves found the back of the net off a pass from teammate Elena Diaz.
With a little over a minute to play in the first half, GSU's Bree Barley went one-on-one with Coastal goalkeeper
Hope Morrow in the box. Morrow attempted to kick the ball out, but Barley was able to win the challenge, and from the ground trickled in her shot to put Georgia State up 2-0 in the 44th minute.
Following the halftime break, GSU added its third and final goal of the match on a set piece goal that found the foot of Maddie Johnston to put the visitors up 3-0.
Coastal's
Megan Brouse tacked on her team-leading sixth goal of the season as the Phoenix, Ariz., native connected on a cross from teammate
Rocio Fernandez in the 56th minute to make the score 3-1. Notably, Fernandez's assist came less than a minute after the Madrid, Spain, native subbed into the contest.
CHANT TALK
- Brouse leads the offensive efforts for the Chanticleers as her six goals and 13 points are atop the CCU roster. Julia Ziegenfuss has added two goals while Rose Behrmann tacked on one of her own. Taylor Tolson and Ziegenfuss lead with Chants with two helpers each. Notably, Brouse, Tori Carnevale, and Cami Wiles have also added a helper.
- In goal, Katelyn Kellogg has started six matches so far this season and logged 540minutes and recorded 22 total saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Morrow has earned the last four starts for the Chants, logging 360 total minutes this season and tacking on 14 saves (.700 save percentage).
SCOUTING THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
- The Ragin' Cajuns' nine goals this season have come from seven different players. Ruthny Mathurin and Hailly Waterhouse lead the offensive efforts, each with two goals. While five others have added one goal. Sisley Stephens leads the Ragin' Cajuns with two assists.
- After finishing the 2021 season 6-10-3 overall (3-5-2 SBC), Louisiana was picked to finish six in the West Division (27 points), while South Alabama was picked to finish first in the West, earning 96 points and 12 first-place votes.
- Karleen Bedre and Mathurin each picked up 2022 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selections. Last season, Bedre was a first-team All-Louisiana pick while Mathurin was a second-team pick.
