Chants Battle #21 Camels to 1-1 Draw on Monday Night

Coastal returns to the pitch on Sept. 11

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team battled the #21 Campbell Camels to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference matchup on the road Monday night in Buies Creek, N.C.

With the draw, Coastal Carolina now sits at 2-1-1 overall, while Campbell moves to 3-0-1.

A rain-soaked first half saw just eight shots between the two teams, with the first of the contest coming from Coastal's Luc Mikula seven minutes into the match, which went wide of the left post.

Neither team was able to break the score and both teams headed into the locker room after 45 minutes of play locked at 0-0.

Campbell tallied the first goal of the contest just five minutes into the second half, as Tyler Young sent a cross into the box that Gerard Broussard buried into the back of the net in the 50th minute to put the host up 1-0.

CCU wasted no time notching the equalizer, as Alvaro Garcia-Pascual chipped a shot towards the goal that hit off the crossbar, then played the rebounded ball over the head of the Camels' goalkeeper to level the score at 1-1 in the 53rd minute.

The Camels were awarded a free kick following a Chanticleer foul in the 73rd minute that CCU goalkeeper Joey Batrouni punched up and over the top of the net to keep Campbell from adding another goal for his second save of the match.

Campbell found the advantage in shots 16-8, including a 3-1 edge in shots on goal, and corner kicks 7-3. Notably, the match saw five yellow cards; all of which were shown to the Chanticleers.

Coastal Carolina returns to the CCU Soccer Stadium as the Chanticleers host High Point on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
