Men's Basketball Continues Road Swing at Old Dominion

The game is the third of four consecutive road contests for the Chants

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team hits the road once again when the Chants travel to Norfolk, Va., to face Old Dominion on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. ET at Holmes Chartway Arena. It is the third of four consecutive road contests for the Chanticleers.

CCU (7-8, 1-3 Sun Belt) is looking to get back into the win column after three consecutive losses. It will be a tall task, as ODU (10-6, 2-2 Sun Belt) is 8-1 overall at Chartway Arena this season and enters Thursday night's contest having won seven of its last 10 outings.

While this is the first time the two teams have met as members of the Sun Belt Conference, it's not the first time they have played on the hardcourt. There have been two previous meetings between the Chants and the Monarchs, with the Monarchs winning both contests. During the 2000-01 season, ODU defeated CCU 81-67, and again beat the Chants during the 2011-12 season by a score of 68-66. Both games were played at ODU.

While ODU is only averaging 68.8 points per game, the Monarchs do have some outstanding scorers led by Tyreek Scott-Grayson's 14.8 points per game average. He is coming off an 18-point performance in the Monarchs' road victory over Georgia Southern this past Saturday.

Chaunce Jenkins is averaging 12.6 points per game, while Ben Stanley is chipping with 11.3 points per game. Stanley is coming off a game-high 22 points at Georgia Southern.

The Chants will counter with an offense that is averaging 75.6 points per game. Jomaru Brown is the team-leader in scoring with an average of 15.3 points per game. He leads the Sun Belt Conference and is 16th nationally in free throw percentage, knocking down 90.5 percent of his charity tosses.

Essam Mostafa will carry a 13.4 points per game average into the game to go along with his 10.3 rebounds per game. The redshirt junior also has 10 double-doubles on the season which not only leads the Sun Belt Conference but also ranks third nationally. Mostafa continues to make his way towards that 1,000th-career point milestone, as he enters this weekend needing only 54 points to become the 24th player in CCU history to reach the milestone.

Sophomore Josh Uduje continues to be a steady force on the offensive end of the court, averaging 10.7 points per game, and transfer Antonio Daye, who had to sit out a full year, has worked his way into the starting lineup the past three games. He has played in six games this season and has scored 15 points in three of those contests. He has his average up to 9.5 points per game and has recorded 17 assists.

The game can be heard on WRNN Hot Talk 99.5 FM and can be watched live on ESPN+. Links for both along with live stats can be found at www.GoCCUSports.com.
