Chants Comeback Falls Short in 75-69 Loss at James Madison

Daye scored a game-high 23 points in the loss

HARRISONBURG, Va.Antonio Daye tied his career-high with a game-high 23 points, but it was not enough as Coastal Carolina fell 75-69 to James Madison on Thursday night at the Atlantic Union Bank Center in Harrisonburg, Va.
 
CCU falls to 10-11 overall and 4-5 in Sun Belt Conference action, while JMU moves to 14-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
 
The Chants trailed by as many as 18 points at 45-27 with four minutes left in the first half. CCU went on to outscore the Dukes 9-2 over the final minutes of the opening half to trail 47-37 at the halftime break.
 
Coastal continued the comeback bid out of the halftime break, as CCU outscored JMU 12-1 to get back into the game that saw seven ties in the second half.  The Chants first tied the game at 55-55 on a Kylan Blackmon three-point field goal with 11 minutes left in the game. From there, the game went back-and-forth, and while there were six more ties, the Chants could never take the lead.
 
Daye completed his third double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with his 23 points. He came up short on his attempt at a triple-double, finishing with a game-high seven assists.
 
Blackmon finished with a career-high 16 points going 7-of-9 from the field and adding two three-point field goals. Linton Brown was on target in the game finishing with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting and adding a game-high five three-point field goals, as the Chants' bench outscored JMU's bench 40-28.
 
JMU had four scorers reach double digits led by Vado Morse's 15 points. Terrence Edwards came off the bench and added 14 points, while Noah Freidel scored 13, and Mezie Offurm added 12.
 
The Chants had 28 field goals in the game compared to 22 for JMU, and CCU had nine three-point baskets compared to seven for JMU.  CCU also won the rebounding battle 38-35.

The difference in the game was CCU's inability to get to the free throw line. JMU hit 24-of-33 free throw attempts, while the Chants only attempted six foul shots for the entire game, making good on four. The differential was especially glowing in the second half as the Dukes attempted 23 free throws to only one for the Chants.
 
CCU will be back home to host Old Dominion Saturday, Jan. 28, at 4 p.m. ET at the HTC Center.
