CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will open up its 2023 spring season home slate this week with another in-state foe, as the Chanticleers will host Francis Marion on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET at the Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway, S.C.
The Chanticleers are off to a 3-0 start this spring, with all three wins coming on the road versus in-state foes. CCU defeated South Carolina State 4-3 last Thursday in Orangeburg, S.C.
Francis Marion has not yet played this spring and will use this match versus the Chanticleers as an exhibition contest.
In doubles play thus far this season, the Chants are a perfect 5-0 lead by a 2-0 record from the team of
Carlos Berna Ruiz and
Steve Mundt, while
Lucas Wayenburg has been victorious in each of his two doubles bouts, winning one with partner
Guilherme Toresan and the other alongside
Neil O'Connor.
The duo of
Ryuya Ata and
Maj Tomac are 1-0 on the season, securing a win in doubles play in the season opener at The Citadel (Jan. 16). Their match at S.C. State was unfinished as the doubles point was decided with their bout tied at 4-4.
In singles play, Toresan is 2-0 overall with a win at both the No. 3 and No. 5 flights, while fellow Chants
Rivers Cahill and O'Connor are both 1-0 on the spring season.
Four Chants are 2-1 overall in singles play heading into action this week, as Ata is 2-0 at the No. 2 flight, while Wayenburg is 2-0 at the No. 3 spot. Tomac has one win each at the No. 4 and No. 5 flights, while Mundt has recorded one win at both the No. 5 and No. 6 positions so far this spring.
