CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team will be on the road as the Chants travel to Boone, N.C., to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Holmes Convocation Center. The game is the first of four consecutive road games for the Chanticleers.
The Chants (7-6, 1-1 Sun Belt) are looking to get back into the win column and pick up their third road win of the season after winning five road contests all of last season.
Appalachian State (7-8, 0-2 Sun Belt) is looking to pick up its first conference win of the season after dropping its first two conference games last week. The Mountaineers enter the contest losers of three straight and six of their past eight games.
The contest will mark the 13th time the two teams have met on the hardcourt in a series that has been dominated by the Mountaineers. App State holds a 9-3 record in the previous 12 outings, including being the victors in each of the last four consecutive games, with two of those being overtime victories.
Coastal has only won once in Boone, that being an 84-77 victory during the 2019-2020 season, which was also the last time CCU picked up a victory in the series.
The Chants are fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 77.4 points per game. Three Chanticleers are among the top scorers in the conference led by
Jomaru Brown, who is the conference's ninth-leading scorer at 15.4 points per game.
Essam Mostafa is right behind him averaging 13.8 points per game and
Josh Uduje is the Sun Belt's 26th-leading scorer averaging 11.4 points per game.
Mostafa picked up the 31st double-double of his career with 15 points and 13 rebounds against Georgia Southern last time out. It was also his ninth double-double of the season which leads the Sun Belt Conference and is 11th nationally.
Appalachian State is just behind the Chants in scoring, averaging 75.3 points per game. Donovan Gregory and Tyree Boykin are the only double-digit scorers for the Mountaineers, each averaging 11.5 points per game.
