CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team will host the James Madison Dukes at the HTC Center for a Sun Belt Conference battle for the top spot in the East Division on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20-21, at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. ET, respectively, on ESPN+.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL & JMU
The Chanticleers trail in the all-time series 4-1, with their lone win coming in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. This will be the first time that the Dukes have traveled to Coastal Carolina.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chanticleers enter the match with a 13-7 overall and 8-0 Sun Belt record after picking up a pair of home wins over the Old Dominion Monarchs. Coastal will put its eight-match win streak on the line this weekend.
Coastal is led by outside hitter
Jasmine Rivest, who has 299 kills on the season and 350.5 points for a 5.23 points per set average. Rivest, a redshirt senior, is joined by freshman
Jalyn Stout, who has 211 kills for 231.5 points. Stout also has 257 assists and 183 digs for a NCAA best seven triple-doubles.
Agata Lesiak and
Lauren Malone have helped out the offense with 138 and 132 spikes, respectively.
Cagla Bengi is the top assists leader for Coastal with 540.
On the defensive side, freshman libero
Sydney Lewis helps the offense get set up with a team-high 267 digs.
Dilara Unal and
Valentina Varani protect the front line with 73 and 68 blocks, respectively, while Lesiak (37) and Rivest (36) have double digit blocks on the year.
ABOUT JMU
James Madison enters the week with a 15-4 overall and 8-0 SBC record after sweeping the Georgia State Panthers last weekend. The Dukes own an eight-match win streak after falling to the then nationally-ranked #8 Pitt Panthers.
Miette Veldman leads the JMU offensive attack with 244 kills while Sophie Davis (190) and Brenya Reid (148) have added double digit spikes. The Dukes' offense is aided by Rebecca Watkins who has 583 of the team's 817 assists on the season.
JMU's defense is led by Davis (75), Alex Kwasnik (42), Elizabeth Helmich (38), and Watkins (35) as the only Dukes with 35 or more blocks, while Veldman has stopped 22 kill attempts. Jaydyn Clemmer has 264 digs to lead JMU while Velman and Madilyn O'Toole have added 175 and 142 digs, respectively.
