CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team will travel to Statesboro, Ga., for a Sun Belt Conference matchup with Georgia Southern on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7, at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. ET, respectively, at Hanner Fieldhouse on ESPN+.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL & GEORGIA SOUTHERN
The Chanticleers are 23-3 overall dating to September 1987 versus the Eagles and are looking for their third straight win. Georgia Southern snapped a 13-match win streak by CCU in November 2021.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chanticleers enter the match with a 9-7 overall and 4-0 Sun Belt record after picking up a pair of wins in Conway, S.C., against Appalachian State.
Coastal is led by outside hitter
Jasmine Rivest, who has 223 kills on the season and 260 points for a 5.31 points per set average. Rivest, a redshirt senior, is joined by freshman
Jalyn Stout, who has 156 kills in 16 matches for 170.5 points. Stout also has 156 assists and 138 digs.
Lauren Malone and
Agata Lesiak have helped out the offense with 104 and 94 spikes, respectively.
Cagla Bengi is the top assists leader for Coastal with 459.
On the defensive side, freshman libero
Sydney Lewis helps the offense get set up with 193 digs.
Dilara Unal and
Valentina Varani protect the front line with 57 and 52 blocks, respectively, while Lesiak (32) and Rivest (26) have double digit blocks on the year.
ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHERN
The Eagles enter the week with a 13-2 overall and 3-1 SBC record after defeating Old Dominion twice last weekend.
Reagan Barth leads the Georgia Southern offensive attack with 141 kills while Jillian Gray and Jordan Christy have added 127 and 102 put downs, respectively. The Eagles' offense is aided by Kirsten Barrett (303) and Callaway Cason (234), who have combined for 537 of the team's 620 assists on the season.
Georgia Southern's defense is led by Ailie Hair (52) and Ally Barnhart (42) as the only Eagles with over 40 blocks, while Gray and Christy have 37 and 22 blocks, respectively. Ashlyn Lovett has 238 digs to lead GS while Barrett and Barth have added 107 and 102 digs, respectively.
