CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team will host South Alabama for a pair of Sun Belt contests to wrap up the 2023 home portion of its schedule on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4, at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. ET, respectively, on ESPN+.
SUN BELT WEEKLY HONORS
For her play,
Jasmine Rivest was named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week. It was the third weekly conference award for the Montreal, Quebec native. She tallied 38 kills while averaging a double-double with 22 digs. She led the league with 5.43 kills per set and 6.00 points per set to help the Chants remain undefeated in Sun Belt action on the season with 3-1 and 3-0 wins over the Marshall Thundering Herd.
On the season, the outside hitter leads the Sun Belt with 4.57 kills per set and 5.32 points per set. She is ranked ninth nationally in kills per set and eighth in points per set.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL & SOUTH ALABAMA
The Chanticleers lead the all-time series 12-5 and have dropped the last four meetings after winning 12 consecutive matches.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chanticleers enter the match with a 17-7 overall and 12-0 Sun Belt record after picking up a pair of road wins over the Marshall Thundering Herd. Coastal will put its 12-match win streak on the line this weekend.
Coastal is led by reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week outside hitter Rivest, who has 375 kills on the season and 436 points for a 5.32 points per set average. Rivest, a redshirt senior, is joined by freshman
Jalyn Stout, who has 253 kills for 282.5 points. Stout also has 345 assists and 228 digs for an NCAA best eight triple-doubles.
Agata Lesiak and
Lauren Malone have helped out the offense with 154 and 146 spikes, respectively.
Cagla Bengi is Coastal's assists leader with 579.
On the defensive side, freshman libero
Sydney Lewis helps the offense get set up with a team-high 330 digs.
Valentina Varani and
Dilara Unal protect the front line with 86 and 84 blocks, respectively, while Rivest (44), Lesiak (43), and Stout (22) have over 20 blocks on the year.
ABOUT SOUTH ALABAMA
The Jaguars enter the week with an 18-6 overall and 9-3 SBC record after splitting a pair of matches with Troy last weekend. South Alabama has dropped three of its previous four matches.
Hannah Maddux and Maddie Soboleski lead the Jaguars' offensive attack with 317 and 302 kills, respectively, while Niki Capizzi (186) and Abryanna Cannon (184) have added over 180 spikes. USA's offense is aided by Kailey Keeble who has 888 of the team's 1,016 assists on the season.
South Alabama's defense is led by Capizzi (97), Lillie Simons (76), and Cannon (61) as the only Jags with 60 or more blocks, while Keeble has stopped 50 kill attempts. Paige Lynn has 372 digs to lead the Jaguars while Keeble and Soboleski have added 263 and 203 digs, respectively.
