Men's Basketball to Host Winthrop

It will be the 86th meeting between the two teams

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball program will be back in action as the Chants host Winthrop University on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the HTC Center at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game is part of a double-header with the women's basketball team which will host the College of Charleston at 1 p.m. ET.
 
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
CCU picked up a 72-70 overtime win over USC Upstate with freshman Jacob Meyer scoring the game-winning basket with just six seconds left in the overtime period.
 
Kevin Easley scored 16 points and picked up his first double-double with 10 rebounds, while John Ojiako collected his second consecutive double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Jimmy Nichols added 11 points and Kylan Blackmon scored 10. Meyer finished the game with nine points.
 
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND WINTHROP        
 
This will be the 86th meeting between the two teams with the Chants holding a slim 45-40 edge in the series which dates back to the 1978-79 season. CCU has won the previous three outings including last season's 86-81 victory in Rock Hill.
 
Coastal has faced Winthrop more than any other opponent over the history of the program. CCU has played UNC Asheville 73 times and Charleston Southern 70 times.
 
CCU holds a 30-12 record against the Eagles at home and is 14-28 when playing at Winthrop. CCU has won the only neutral court game.
 
Since Cliff Ellis has been coaching at CCU, the Chants have won 12 of the 22 meetings.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
CCU enters the action with a 2-4 record and Meyer leads the team in scoring averaging 13.2 points per game. He leads the team in assists with 16 and in steals with nine. Easley is averaging 13.0 points per game to go along with his 7.5 rebounds per game and his 14 assists.
 
Blackmon averages 12.0 points per game and his 14 three-point field goals is a team-high. Ojiako averages 11.5 points per game and his 9.5 rebounds per game is leading the Sun Belt Conference.
 
ABOUT WINTHROP
 
Winthrop enters the game 5-3 overall and has won four of its previous five outings.
 
Kelton Talford is shooting 68.5 percent from the field in scoring 13.6 points per game, both team-highs. K.J. Doucet averages 12.1 points per game and is the Eagles' top shooter in three-point field goals, knocking down 44.4 percent of his attempts. He also leads Winthrop at the free throw line shooting 82.1 percent.
 
Other double-digit scorers on the team are Nick Johnson at 10.8 points per game and Kasen Harrison who averages 10.1 points per game and is the team-leader in assists with 31 and in steals with 15.
