CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball program will host the Troy Trojans on Saturday, Dec. 30, at the HTC Center at 2 p.m. ET. The game will open up Sun Belt Conference action for both teams.
LAST TIME OUT
CCU lost to North Carolina A&T 85-82 in its last outing. The three-point loss was the third time this season the Chants have fallen by three points.
The Chants led with just over seven minutes left in the game, but could not hold the lead down the stretch in the hard-fought loss.
John Ojiako led the Chants with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in securing his seventh double-double of the season.
Jimmy Nichols came off the bench to score 14 points, while
Jacob Meyer and
Kylan Blackmon scored 13 points each.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND TROY
Today's action will be the 17th meeting between the two programs with the Chants holding a slim 9-7 lead in the series. The Chants have won seven of the last nine meetings in the series, with Troy's 77-59 win last season on its homecourt stopping a six-game Coastal winning streak.
The Chants hold a 4-2 lead in the series on its homecourt, winning the last three meetings at the HTC Center.
ABOUT COASTAL
CCU's offensive production is producing 80.6 points per game, which is the third-best scoring production in the Sun Belt Conference.
The Chants have a balanced offensive team with three players averaging over 13 points per game and another three players averaging over nine points per game.
Ojiako leads the way averaging 13.4 points per game to go along with his 10.4 points per game. Meyer and Blackmon are both averaging 13.3 points per game.
Jon Sanders (9.5), Nichols (9.5), and
Kevin Easley (9.4) are all three averaging over nine points per contest.
ABOUT TROY
Troy enters the contest with a 6-6 overall record and average 83.3 points per game and only allowing 71.2 points per game.
Christyon Eugene is Troy's leading scorer and the third leading scorer in the Sun Belt Conference averaging 16.1 points per game. He also leads the Trojans in rebounds (4.9) and assists (48). His 47.2 percent three-point shooting and 80.8 percent at the free throw line also leads the Trojans.
Tayton Conerway averages 11.3 points per game and Aamer Muhammad is averaging 10.3 points per game.
