Chanticleers will be on the road for the next four matches

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team opened up its 2023 home season on Valentine's Day; however, there was no home court love as the Chanticleers were defeated by the Charleston Southern Buccaneers 5-2 in non-conference action.

With the loss, CCU is 0-2 to start the season. With the win, Charleston Southern improved to 2-3 on the year.

The home team took an early 1-0 match lead, as the Chanticleers picked up the doubles point with a pair of wins. On court No. 2, the duo of Tatum Burger and Lilie Steryous cruised to a 6-1 win over Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic, while on court No. 1 the tandem of Anna Babayan and Megan Hopton defeated CSU's Tiffany Pyritz and Zoe Cauthen 6-2.

However, the Chanticleers would record just one win over the six singles contests in what proved to be hard-fought matches on all six courts.

CCU's Babayan picked up a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over Boyd on court No. 2 to pick up her first singles win of the 2023 spring season.

The match on court No. 3 went three sets with CSU's Jusufbegovic winning 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 over Kata Foldeak, while on court No. 4 the Buccaneers won in a second-set tiebreaker 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).

Coastal will be on the road for each of its next four matches with bouts at South Carolina (Feb. 17), Clemson (Feb. 19), Presbyterian (Feb. 20), and Campbell (Feb. 23).
