CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team will be back at home this week for its final home stand of the season. The home finales will begin on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. ET, with CCU hosting Georgia State at the HTC Center. The Chants will then turn around and host Texas State on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. ET.
Coastal, looking to move up in the conference regular-season standings, enters this week's action with a 10-16 overall record and is 12th in the Sun Belt Conference with a 4-10 conference ledger.
Georgia State enters Thursday night's game at 10-16 overall and just one game behind the Chanticleers in the Sun Belt Conference with a 3-11 conference record, while Texas State enters the week with a 12-15 record and is just one game in front of the Chants in the Sun Belt Conference with a 5-9 record.
Right before Saturday's outing with Texas State, seniors Will Likayi,
Jomaru Brown, and
Antonio Daye will be honored on Senior Day.
LAST TIME OUT
CCU lost to James Madison 73-66 as the Dukes were able to pull away over the final 90 seconds of the game.
Josh Uduje, who has become CCU's most consistent scorer over the past several weeks, led the Chants with 22 points. CCU had three other teammates join Uduje in double figures as Conway native
Jimmy Nichols, scored a career-high 20 points, while
Antonio Daye and
Jomaru Brown added 10 points each.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND GEORGIA STATE
This has been a tight series since its beginning back in the 2007-08 season. The series is tied with each team picking up seven wins each, which includes Georgia State's win earlier this season in Atlanta to even the series. Coastal does hold a 5-3 lead in the series on the Chants' home court.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND TEXAS STATE
Saturday's game will only be the third time the two teams have met at CCU, with Texas State winning two of those three games. The Bobcats have won six consecutive games in the series with CCU's last win coming back in 2018, which was a 56-54 overtime win in San Marcos, Texas.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chants are looking to get back into the win column and will lean on Uduje for offensive support. The London, England native has become the Chants' top offensive performer over the past month of the season, in which he is averaging a team-best 16.4 points per game. He has reached double figures nine times over this time and has pushed his season average up to 13.0 points per game.
ABOUT GEORGIA STATE
Georgia State is only averaging 66.7 points per game, but it has been a balanced scoring effort as five Panthers are averaging double figures. Dwon Odom leads GSU averaging 13.3 points per game. He also has a team-best 93 assists to go with his 17 blocked shots and 24 steals.
Brenden Tucker is averaging 12.6 points per game, while Collin Moore is averaging 12.5 points per game. Ja'Heim Hudson is the team's top field goal shooter at 48 percent and averages 10.8 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounds averaging 7.3 per game and is the team leader in blocked shots (22) and steals (25).
Jamaine Mann averages 10.4 points per game and has 27 three-point field goals this season.
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats enter the weekend coming off a tough 70-68 loss to Old Dominion, and like the Chants, are struggling over the past nine games where they have only won two of those outings.
Mason Harrell is the only Bobcat to average in double figures with his 15.9 points per game scoring average. Nighael Ceaser is averaging 9.1 points per game and Tyrel Morgan averages 7.8 points per game.
The Bobcats are playing better on the road as they enter this week with a 6-6 road record while only having a 4-8 record at home.
