CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team will be on the road to end the 2022-23 regular season campaign when the Chanticleers play at Georgia Southern, Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Ga., and then at Troy, Friday, Feb. 24, at the Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala.
Coastal enters the final week of the Sun Belt Conference's regular season with an 11-17 overall record and a 5-11 conference ledger.
Georgia Southern enters the Wednesday night affair with a 14-15 overall record and tied for ninth in the Sun Belt Conference with a 7-9 record. Troy is fighting for one of the top four spots in the conference standings heading into the Sun Belt Conference Championship, and enters the week's action 17-12 overall and tied for fourth in the conference standings with a 9-7 conference record.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chants had another close loss in the final home game of the season as they fell to Texas State 78-75 on Saturday afternoon. The Chants and Bobcats fought through 13 ties and eight lead changes before CCU missed out on a three-point field goal attempt with 1.8 seconds left in the game and trailing by one. The Bobcats got the rebound and added two more free throws for the final score.
Antonio Daye led CCU with 20 points, followed by
Josh Uduje's 17 points.
Linton Brown and
Henry Abraham came off the bench to score 13 and 11 points, respectively.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Wednesday's action will be the 18th meeting between the two programs with the Chants holding a slim 9-8 lead in the series. The Eagles have won the last two contests, and including a 73-64 win over Coastal back on Dec. 31. It was the second Sun Belt Conference game of the season for both teams.
CCU holds a 4-3 edge in the series in Statesboro, with CCU's last road win in the series coming back during the 2020-21 season, a 79-62 Chants victory.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND TROY
Coastal holds a 9-6 lead in the 15-game series, including winning seven of the last eight games, with Troy's 69-59 win last season stopping a six-game Coastal winning streak in the series. The Chants defeated Troy on the HTC court 73-63 at the end of last season.
The Chants has won four of the seven games that have been played in the Trojan Arena and have won nine of the 13 games against Troy since joining the Sun Belt Conference for the 2016-17 season.
ABOUT COASTAL
Uduje, who has scored in double digits in seven consecutive games and 10 of CCU's last 11 games, has taken over the team lead in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game. He is shooting 42.7 percent from the field and is second on the team with 47 three-point attempts, while hitting 32.2 percent of his three's. He is also shooting 88.3 percent from the free throw line. He enters the final week of the regular season with a team-high 38 steals and has added 11 blocked shots.
Jomaru Brown is averaging 13.0 points per game, while Daye is averaging 11.7 points per outing.
ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Like the Chants, the Eagles have hit a snag at the end of the season, losing eight of their last 11 games. Andrei Savrasov leads GS in scoring at 13.8 points per game, while Jalen Finch averages 10.9.
Tyren Moore averages 9.4 points per game, but scores most of his points from beyond the three-point line. He has 53 treys on the year, by far the leader on the team.
ABOUT TROY
The Trojans may be playing their best ball of the season as the regular season winds down. Troy has won four of its last five games.
Duke Miles leads the Trojans' scoring efforts, averaging 14.0 points per game, as Troy has five players averaging in double digits.
Zay Williams averages 12.0 points per game, followed by Christyon Eugen (11.4), Nelson Phillips (10.8), and Aamer Muhammad (10.6).
