Coastal Carolina to Close Out the Regular Season at Home this Week

Women’s basketball to honor three seniors on Feb. 24

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will close out the 2022-23 season by hosting a pair of Sun Belt Conference matchups this week versus Georgia State (Feb. 22) and Old Dominion (Feb. 24). The tip-off for both Wednesday and Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
 
The Chanticleers are 12-15 overall on the season and 7-9 in Sun Belt Conference play after falling 75-66 to the Georgia Southern Eagles last Saturday in Statesboro, Ga.
 
The Georgia State Panthers enter this week's action at 11-18 overall and 5-11 in the conference, while ODU currently sits at 19-10 overall and 11-5 in Sun Belt play.
 
SENIOR DAY
 
Coastal Carolina will honor three graduate students, Amaya Adams, Miriam Recarte, and Aja Blount, who will be competing in the final home game of their Chanticleer careers.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
Coastal's Blount scored a team-high 22 points to lead three Chanticleers in double-digit scoring in the road loss to Georgia Southern. The 5-11 forward also grabbed 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the year and 25th of her career. She was aided on the offensive end by Deaja Richardson and Arin Freeman, who chipped in 16 and 13 points, respectively.
 
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND GEORGIA STATE
 
Coastal Carolina leads Georgia State 10-5 in the all-time series, as the two teams will be meeting for the 16th time overall and 14th time in Sun Belt Conference action. The two teams last played in January, with the Chants picking up a 68-57 road win for their third-straight win over the Panthers.
 
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND OLD DOMINION
 
The two teams will be meeting for just the second time, as ODU claimed a 78-64 win over Coastal Carolina in Norfolk, Va., earlier this season.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants are averaging 70.1 points per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 33.8 from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal has allowed 68.7 points per game while its opponents are shooting 40.8 percent from the floor.
 
Forward Blount leads the Chants in double-digit scoring with 16.7 points per game, while guards Richardson, Freeman, and Angie Juste-Jean are scoring 13.2, 10.2, and 7.6 points, respectively. Freeman leads the Chants in both assists and takeaways with 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Aside from scoring, Blount leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game, with Freeman and Recarte adding 4.5 and 3.9 boards, respectively.
 
ABOUT GEORGIA STATE
 
As a team, Georgia State is averaging 61.7 points per contest while allowing 61.0 points per game. The Panthers have outshot their opponents at 41.0 percent to 36.8 percent from the floor. On the year, GSU has outrebounded its opponents by over two boards per game at 37.2 to 34.6 rebounds per game.
 
Mikyla Tolivert (14.5) and Deasia Merrill (13.4) lead the team in scoring and are the only players scoring more than 13 points per game. Merrill leads the Panthers with 7.3 rebounds per game, while Zay Dyer and Alyssa Phillip have grabbed an average of 5.7 and 5.1 boards per contest, respectively.
 
ABOUT OLD DOMINION
 
The Monarchs are averaging 65.4 points per contest while holding their opponents to 61.2 points per game. ODU has been outshot by its opponents at 39.4 percent to 40.1 percent from the floor. On the year, the Monarchs have outrebounded their opponents 1,123-1,053 in the 29 games to date.
 
Amari Young (11.4) and Makayla Dickens (10.5) are the only ODU players in double-digit scoring, as Kaye Clark (9.2) is just shy of averaging in double digits. Aside from scoring, Young leads the Monarchs in rebounds at 8.4 boards per game, while Jordan McLaughlin and Clark have helped out with averages of 3.4 and 3.0 assists per game this season, respectively.
