PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot an eight-over 584 over the first two rounds of The Hayt on Sunday to finish the first day of competition in eighth place.
Trey Crenshaw (70-76) and
Garrett Cooper (71-75) led the Chants' efforts, as each carded a two-over 146 and are tied for 24th heading into tomorrow's final round. Crenshaw had five birdies over his first 36 holes, while Cooper had four birdies, which included an 11-hole run that saw him shoot a one-under for those holes.
Seth Taylor (75-73) and
Owen Kim (77-71) each fired a four-over 148 and are tied for 37th, while
Tyler Gray (73-76) finished the two rounds tied for 47th after shooting a five-over 149. Kim had a team-best 10 birdies on the day, with Taylor finishing the two rounds with seven.
Second-ranked Vanderbilt leads the 14-team field, after blistering the course with a 19-under 557 (286-271), leading host North Florida by eighth strokes, as the Ospreys finished the first day of action with an 11-under 565 (288-277).
Rounding out the top five are Louisiana Tech, in the clubhouse at one-over, followed by UCF (+4, 580) and FGCU (+5, 581).
Arkansas and Furman lead off the second five at six-over 583, while the Chants are just two strokes back at eight-over 584. Alabama (+11, 587), and Chattanooga (+13, 589) follow the Chants in rounding out the top-10.
The rest of the field includes UAB (+11, 592), North Texas with a 19-over, and both Jacksonville State and Jacksonville even at 29-over heading into tomorrow's third and final round.
